ABOUT

Jacqueline Castel is an award winning French-American filmmaker, archivist, curator, and longtime collaborator with Sacred Bones Records. She honed her craft at CalArts, FAMU in the Czech Republic, and earned her BFA at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in Film & TV. 

 

Her work as a writer & director has screened at Sundance, SXSW, Sitges, Fantasia, BAMcinemaFest, and worldwide in Paris, London, Moscow, Tokyo, & Mexico City, and has featured collaborations with filmmakers John Carpenter, David Lynch, & Jim Jarmusch. 

 

As a music video director, her work has aired internationally on MTV & the BBC, premiered online with the New York Times, Interview Magazine, NOWNESS, & Dazed Digital, and has been included in year end best of lists on Pitchfork & NME, deeming her a "Director to Watch" by Fader Magazine and prompting her inclusion as a panelist on the topic for SXSW. She has created visuals for live performances at the Guggenheim, MoMA P.S. 1, & The Creators Project SF, along with providing Creative Direction for the Red Bull Music Academy in NYC.

Castel's archival and curatorial work has extended to the Genesis Breyer P-Orridge archives at the Tate Britain, the estate of H.R. Giger, and via her experiences interviewing and preserving the archives of dozens of creative luminaries, scholars, and historians for Criterion, Kino Lorber, Arrow, & Severin Films. She has hosted and curated film events at dozens of renowned independent theaters, makeshift cinemas, and DIY spaces both domestically and internationally. Additionally, she is a co-director of the NYC chapter of the Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies

She is currently in production directing a feature documentary on Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth, a transgressive UK-based artist collective co-founded by members of Throbbing Gristle. Her first narrative feature film, an erotic thriller and French-Japanese co-production, is shooting in Tokyo. 

Castel has participated in the Frontieres Market at Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, and IFFAM in Macao, China, where she was the recipient of the Ivanhoe Pictures award​ for a psychological horror film that she has in development. 

She is based in NYC & Los Angeles and is represented by the Verve Agency.
